Color Movies with VoxBlast: 3D Microscopy of Living Cells Tobacco Cells Tobacco Cells collected by Dr. Birgit Neubohn, Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research, Gatersleben, DE. The images were taken at the 3rd annual "3-D Microscopy of Living Cells" course, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC.This movie was created with VayTek's VoxBlast 2.1 on a Macintosh PPC7300/200. TLive cultured tobacco cells stained with the vital fluorescent membrane dye, FM-143. They were viewed under a Bio-Rad MRC-1024 confocal microscope using an Olympus 40X, NA1.0 water immersion objective. The reconstruction is from 77 images representing approximately 23 microns depth. VayTek's 3D volume visualization and reconstruction software, VoxBlast, was used to create the movie. VoxBlast is available for Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX platforms. For website presentation, the original movie was flattened with FlattenMoov, reduced by 60 percent, and several cycles of rotation were trimmed off each end. In addition, the lower resolution of 8 bits was chosen to speed download time. To download the full-sized and complete movie, Image processing assisted by Glen MacDonald Research Scientist University of Washington Core for Communications Research The VoxBlast movie player is required to view .EXE VoxBlast movies.
