Fluorescent Alveolar Septum ![]()
The image was acquired with a Biorad laser scanning confocal microscope, using fluorescence. (Biorad MRC 600 at the Integrated Microscopy Resource Center, UW.) The tissue was processed by freeze fixation--ethanol dehydration--JB4 resin imbedment. Modest image refinement and cleaning was done in NIH image and then the image was imported into VoxBlast, version 1. The opacity algorithm in VoxBlast was used to remove air space. This research focuses on capillary-level structures of the lung. This computer reconstruction shows not just the surface features, but also the all of the capillaries, including the backside of the volume, in true 3D rotation.
